As part of the Civil Engineering Department's commitment to field visits and its focus on linking theoretical knowledge with practical applications, and in line with activities related to precast and prestressed concrete structures, the department organized a field trip for students of the Pre-stressed Concrete Design course. The visit took place on Tuesday, 21st of Safar 1440H (October 30, 2018) to the Al-Fanar Precast and Prestressed Concrete Factory in Riyadh. The visit was under the patronage of Dr. Raed Al-Yousef, the Acting Dean of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Yasser Al-Hamadi, the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, with supervision by Dr. Mohammed Al-Bahar, a faculty member and instructor of the Pre-stressed Concrete Design course.
During the visit, students were introduced to the factory’s main production units and its associated plants. They explored the systems and machinery used in the process of pouring and preparing structural and architectural concrete elements. Students observed the large concrete preparation and mixing station, which is electronically controlled, as well as the extensive pouring areas equipped with the latest concrete pouring and curing systems. Among the notable precast and prestressed products manufactured by the factory are hollow concrete slabs in various shapes and sizes, single and double-tee concrete slabs, structural and architectural walls (both regular and colored), and components used in building facades and finishes.
The Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, extends its sincere gratitude to the college administration for their continuous support of the departments and students, and to the management, staff, and workers at the Al-Fanar Factory for their cooperation and warm hospitality during the visit.
