Scientific degree
The department awards a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering after completing (248) credit hours distributed according to the study plan. The student must also finish the summer training for eight weeks for those who have completed (180) credit hours. The student must also do a two-semesters research project.
Program Mission
“To provide quality education in Civil Engineering that prepares students to competitively and responsibly carry on technical and/or managerial missions in the public or private sectors throughout their career and to successfully undertake graduate level studies, while holding a commitment to professional ethics and to the values of societal service”.
Program Educational Objectives
The Bachelors of Civil Engineering (BCE) Program Educational Objectives are published at the Department webpage on the University website (http://psau.edu.sa) and are posted in the Civil Engineering Department premises at various locations. The Engineering Program expects the graduates within a few years of graduation to attain the following:
- Have successful careers in civil engineering.
- Deliver leadership and contribute to the development of the Saudi economy.
- Seek successfully graduate studies, new knowledge, and advanced technology in Civil Engineering.
Student Outcomes (SOs):
The ABET Student Outcomes (1) through (7) criteria which encompass the knowledge, skills, and capabilities that the Civil Engineering Program expects students to have attained by the time of their graduation are:
1)an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
2)an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
3)an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
4)an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
5)an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
6)an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
7)an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
