In line with Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University's commitment to activating its community role and promoting environmental and engineering awareness, the College of Engineering - Female Students Section implemented a community educational awareness initiative entitled "Sustainability and Engineering Design" on October 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The initiative was supervised by Dr. Iman Al-Sharif, a faculty member at the college, with the participation of students from the Professional Engineering Communications course.
The initiative targeted 20 students from Al-Aliya Secondary School in Al-Kharj. It aimed to introduce them to the concept of sustainability and the role of engineering in serving the community, as well as to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable design in daily and future life.
The initiative included an introductory lecture that outlined the Sustainable Development Goals and Saudi Vision 2030, highlighting the role of various engineering disciplines—civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and industrial—in supporting the sustainability journey and building a more environmentally conscious future. This was followed by a practical workshop titled "My Green Project", which explored methods of utilizing solar energy, natural ventilation, green spaces, and rainwater harvesting in architectural engineering design. The workshop emphasized the use of recycled materials in creating models, underscoring the importance of reuse and waste reduction in sustainable engineering projects.
Dr. Iman Al-Sharif explained that the initiative seeks to connect academic education with community practices, develop the communication and teamwork skills of female engineering students, and inspire high school students to explore the field of engineering and its role in building a sustainable future.
The event received significant engagement from the students. The College of Engineering confirmed that the initiative represents a successful model of integrating academic and community roles, embodying the university's vision of empowering female students to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals and reinforcing the concept that engineering is a means to create a better, more conscious, and sustainable future.
