The College of Engineering participated in the Shell Eco-marathon, a global competition dedicated to designing and developing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles. The event was held at Lusail International Circuit in the State of Qatar, with broad participation from universities representing various countries across Asia and the Middle East.

The College’s participation aimed to enhance students’ practical experience and enable them to apply their scientific knowledge in designing innovative engineering solutions in the fields of energy efficiency and sustainability. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasize supporting innovation, developing national capabilities, and advancing clean technologies.

As part of its participation, the College of Engineering developed two vehicles to compete in the following categories:

  • High-Efficiency Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles
  • Hydrogen-Powered Vehicles

The internal combustion engine vehicle achieved an unprecedented fuel-efficiency record and secured first place among Middle Eastern universities throughout the history of university participation in the competition. This achievement reflects the advanced capabilities of the College’s students and the quality of the academic and practical training provided by the University.

This participation embodies the College of Engineering’s commitment to connecting educational outcomes with real-world applications and providing a learning environment that fosters innovation, research, and development. It also contributes to preparing engineers capable of leading the transition toward sustainable energy solutions that support national development and keep pace with global trends in clean transportation technologies.
